Designer David Mocarski of Arkkit Forms Design envisioned the furniture equivalent of the “little black dress” when he sat down to create Tia’s guest chair and counter- and bar-height stools. The result is is seating that’s at home in any space.
I wanted my inspiration to be an exercise in subtlety Mocarski says. “It also was essential that the design have a unique personality. Profile, silhouette and proportion drove the design.”
In bringing the Tia collection to life, Mocarski sought to create a “conversation” between the seating area and the wooden frame. He achieved this goal by designing a seat and back in one single shape.
“The seat flows from the top of the back down onto the seat,” he explains. “It then rolls over the front edge and continuously moves back to the top. The wooden frame embraces and cradles the continuous seat.”
Mocarski also included a ’surprise element’ in Tia’s design: The wood frame is carved out on the back where it meets the seating form, creating a beautiful silhouette. The entire Tia collection’s subtle design elements resonate simplicity – from the pitch and taper of the legs and the angle of the back and seat, to the relationship between the wood and upholstery.
Because of its unassuming nature, Tia works well in groupings and blends into any workplace environment, from private offices to meeting rooms to café an reception areas.
“While appearing simple and refined, Tia actually has a complicated design that establishes a distinctive presence,” Mocarski says.“When viewed from each angle, its strong, yet underplayed, identity is revealed.”
Tia is available in a maple or ash hardwood frame in any of Gunlocke’s standard finishes, while its seat and seatback can be clad in any of the company’s fabric or leather options.
