With Stride, the word “environment” is something created as well as protected.
To reach the highest environmental standards, Stride was designed from the ground up incorporating Life Cycle thinking. That means we kept the environment in mind at every step, from design and manufacturing to use and reuse.
When designing, we incorporated lead-free and PVC-free components and created options that eliminated unnecessary parts. During manufacturing, we use 46% recycled materials, offset 100% of the energy for production using green-e renewable energy certificates, and we practice Rapid Continuous Improvement to eliminate waste and improve efficiency. With low emissions and rapidly renewable and recycled content materials, Stride can contribute to many credits for LEED® certification.
We also considered what happens to Stride at the end of its useful life. Allsteel partners with Revive™, a Green Solutions North America program that repurposes used furniture and equipment to non-profit organizations, schools, and health clinics. And Stride is 97% recyclable, so it can be kept out of landfills at the end of its useful life.
But it’s more than just being green. It’s streamlining processes and making Stride more durable and more relevant, to be used in more ways, for more years.
The path to sustainability requires serious rethinking of the way our society makes and consumes products. We must “close the loop,” making sure that materials in today’s products find new life in future products, instead of being thrown away as is common practice.
With Stride, we’re using and promoting energy from renewable resources and minimizing fresh water use, and we’ve chosen materials and assemblies that can be easily recycled at the end of product life. We also require our suppliers to follow socially responsible practices that leave the smallest possible environmental footprint.
More and more people are making an effort to keep the environment in mind in their daily lives. From carrying reusable totes in the grocery store to recycling household waste at home. From examining the contents of products they buy and choosing those made of more sustainable materials to selecting more efficient appliances. From turning off computers at night to save energy to buying hybrid vehicles that offer better gas mileage. And now, people can be assured that they are doing their part for the environment in the office, because every part of a Stride workstation is designed and built to very high environmental standards.
