It's important to "close the loop" of a product's life cycle by getting old products recycled and their component materials turned into new products. Doing so decreases the need to extract new raw materials and reduces the amount of energy needed to manufacture new products. To accomplish this, furniture must be disassembled and the component materials must be recyclable. Consumers can play their role by making sure their old products get to recyclers and avoid landfills. Manufacturers must make that process as easy to accomplish as possible.
